The first Kyudo event in Saint-Petersburg within the
tradition "White nights. Kyudo-Style"
St. Petersburg is famous for its tradition to hold different festivals, tournaments, seminars, including various kinds of martial arts, during the period of White Nights. Last year, within this tradition, for the first time RPO “Saint-Petersburg Federation of the Traditional Kyudo” held a Kyudo seminar with the participation of Sensei Kiyoshi Ino from Japan.
This year, continuing the tradition, in June it was held a mini Kyudo seminar for the guests of our city from Pyatigorsk and Vladikavkaz – the participants of the annual “International Aikido Festival White Nights”. In that way, it was the beginning of the collaboration of our regions in the development of Kyudo. The Region Representatives took with them the necessary equipment, which will allow them to lay the foundations for the new Kyudo Clubs in Russia.
In addition, on the longest astronomical day 22nd of June, 2012, the RPO “Saint-Petersburg Federation of the Traditional Kyudo” laid a new tradition for Saint-Petersburg, acting as the organizer of the Kydo event “White Nights. Kyudo-style”. The participants of the event were the Aikido Club “Seimei”, the Head of the Club Mr. D. Chernyaev, The Club of the Tea Ceremony “Tyanoyu”, the Head of the Club Ms. N. Burmistrova, the Club “The Lovers of Archery”, the Head of the Club  Mr.A. Yalyshev.
The representatives of these clubs could get to know each other better, communicate in a friendly atmosphere and exchange by perspective plans for the development of their areas and the ideas for cooperative projects.
At the end of the longest day of the year (the summer solstice), it was held the Kyudo demonstration, and everyone, who present could become a participant of the Tea Ceremony (tea action), accompanied by the very interesting narrative by Natalia Burmistrova about the historical and philosophical aspects of this tradition.
RPO “Saint-Petersburg Federation of the Traditional Kyudo” thanks all people, who took part in the new event for our city and supported the idea of its development in the future. We are pleased that the values of Kyudo turned out to be equally close to the participants of the event and we hope that Kyudo will certainly take its rightful place in Saint-Petersburg as an element of Japanese culture, as a traditional martial art, as the refined art of archery, complementing the palette of cultural traditions of our city.
